Jeddah Airport (JED) Arrival Guide: Meet and Greet for Umrah, Hajj and Business

King Abdulaziz International Airport (JED)
Airport GuidesBy AxisLink Operations Team4 October 20269 min read

A Jeddah airport meet and greet service means a greeter meets you at King Abdulaziz International Airport (JED), usually at or near the aircraft door or the arrivals area, and guides you through immigration, baggage reclaim and customs to your car or train. It is most useful for Umrah pilgrims, elderly travellers, families and first-time visitors, because JED is busy, spread across several terminals and changing quickly in 2026.

Key facts

  • King Abdulaziz International Airport (JED) lies about 19 km north of central Jeddah.
  • Terminal 1 is the main terminal and is used by Saudia and flynas, plus many foreign airlines.
  • Terminal 4 (the redeveloped former South Terminal) began phased operations on 27 September 2026, with a capacity of 15 million passengers a year.
  • The Hajj and Umrah Terminal handles pilgrim flights and, from October 2026, several airlines moving from the North Terminal.
  • The Haramain High Speed Railway has a station at Terminal 1 with trains to Makkah, Jeddah city and Madinah.
  • Umrah permits and bookings are managed through the official Nusuk platform; visas are issued via the Ministry of Foreign Affairs visa platform.

JED terminals in 2026: which one will you arrive at?

Jeddah’s airport is in the middle of a major reshuffle. At the time of writing (October 2026), the airport operates several passenger terminals, and airlines are moving between them in phases. Your ticket may still show an outdated terminal, so always confirm with your airline a day or two before you fly.

Terminal 1 (the main terminal)

Opened in 2019, Terminal 1 is the airport’s flagship building and the one most visitors will see. Saudia operates most of its flights here, and flynas lists Terminal 1 as its Jeddah terminal. Many major foreign carriers also use it. Crucially for pilgrims, the Haramain High Speed Railway station is connected to Terminal 1, so this is the easiest terminal for onward rail travel to Makkah.

Terminal 4 (new from September 2026)

Terminal 4 is the redeveloped site of the old South Terminal, which closed in 2020. According to the Saudi Press Agency, it began phased operations on 27 September 2026 and includes a dedicated area for Hajj and Umrah group check-in. Airlines announced in the first wave include Wizz Air, AJet, SalamAir, Fly Jinnah, Nesma Airlines, Akasa Air, SyrianAir, Pegasus, Azerbaijan Airlines and Tunisair, with more expected to follow. Passengers heading for the Haramain train need to transfer to Terminal 1.

North Terminal and the Hajj and Umrah Terminal

The North Terminal has historically served foreign airlines, many of them low-cost or regional. It is being emptied gradually, with several carriers moving to Terminal 4 and others to the Hajj and Umrah Terminal during October 2026. The Hajj Terminal, famous for its tent-like roof, was built for the pilgrimage season and handles large volumes of pilgrim flights at peak times.

Terminal Typical users (October 2026) Haramain train access
Terminal 1 Saudia, flynas and many major foreign airlines Direct, station connected to the terminal
Terminal 4 Foreign airlines moving in phases (e.g. Wizz Air, Pegasus, SalamAir, AJet) Transfer to Terminal 1 first
North Terminal Remaining foreign airlines until their move date Transfer to Terminal 1 first
Hajj and Umrah Terminal Pilgrim and charter flights; some airlines moving in October 2026 Transfer to Terminal 1 first

Saudi visa basics for visitors and Umrah pilgrims

Visa rules for Saudi Arabia have opened up considerably, but they are also updated often. Use only official channels and check the latest requirements before you book.

  • Tourist eVisa: eligible nationalities can apply online through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ unified visa platform (visa.mofa.gov.sa) or via Visit Saudi. Some travellers can obtain a visa on arrival; check your eligibility first.
  • Umrah: at the time of writing, holders of several visa types, including tourist visas, can perform Umrah, but you need an Umrah permit and bookings registered through the official Nusuk platform. Requirements such as approved accommodation and transport can apply, so check Nusuk before you travel.
  • Hajj: Hajj requires a dedicated Hajj visa and permit. A tourist visa does not allow you to perform Hajj, and access to Makkah is restricted for non-permit holders during the Hajj period.
  • Season dates: the Umrah season has fixed visa issuance, entry and departure deadlines that change each year. Confirm the current dates on Nusuk.

Keep printed and digital copies of your visa, passport, Nusuk permit, hotel confirmation and return ticket. Immigration officers may ask for them, and a phone battery can run out after a long flight.

Arriving at JED step by step

  1. Disembark: depending on the stand, you will walk through an air bridge or take a bus to the terminal. Bus gates are common at busy times.
  2. Immigration: join the queue for visitors and present your passport and visa. Biometrics (fingerprints and photo) are usually taken. Queues can be long when several wide-body pilgrim flights land together, especially in Ramadan and the weeks around it.
  3. Baggage reclaim: check the screens for your belt and use a trolley or porter if you have several bags.
  4. Customs: go through the green or red channel as appropriate. Declare items as required by Saudi customs rules.
  5. Exit and onward travel: head to the official taxi rank, your pre-booked driver, your group coach, or (from Terminal 1) the Haramain station.

Arriving in ihram for Umrah

Many pilgrims flying to Jeddah for Umrah enter ihram before or during the flight, as the aircraft passes the miqat before landing. Airlines often make an announcement on board. Follow the guidance of your scholar or Umrah provider, and keep a small bag with essentials (unscented toiletries, medication, a light shawl for the air-conditioned terminal) in your cabin baggage.

Getting from JED to Makkah or Jeddah city

Haramain High Speed Railway

The Haramain High Speed Railway links Makkah, Jeddah and Madinah, with a station at King Abdulaziz International Airport connected to Terminal 1. It is a comfortable option for pilgrims travelling light and for anyone wanting to avoid road traffic. Book through the official Haramain channels, check the timetable for your travel date, and allow time to reach the station if you land at another terminal. Large luggage and Umrah groups can make the train more complicated, so many families still prefer a private car.

Private transfer or chauffeur

A pre-booked car is the simplest door-to-door choice, especially with elderly relatives, children or plenty of luggage. Your driver can wait if immigration takes longer than expected. If you are staying in Makkah, note that non-Muslims cannot enter the city, and your driver needs to be permitted to drive into the central area where your hotel is located. You can arrange this through our airport transfers page.

Taxis, ride-hailing and group coaches

Licensed airport taxis and ride-hailing apps operate from the terminals. Use the official ranks and pick-up points rather than accepting offers from unofficial drivers in the arrivals hall. Umrah and Hajj groups usually travel by coach arranged by their operator, which can mean waiting until the whole group has cleared immigration.

Tips for elderly and first-time pilgrims

  • Request wheelchair assistance when booking your flight, not at the airport. Airlines arrange this through the airport, and requesting it early avoids long waits.
  • Expect long walks and waits. Distances inside Terminal 1 are considerable, and immigration can take time at peak periods.
  • Carry medication in your hand luggage with a copy of the prescription, plus water and a light snack.
  • Keep documents in one folder: passport, visa, Nusuk permit, hotel details and an emergency contact in Saudi Arabia.
  • Agree a meeting point if your group is split across flights or terminals, and keep phones charged.
  • Avoid rushing to Makkah if you are exhausted. Resting in Jeddah for a night before Umrah can be sensible for older travellers; check your permit dates allow it.

When does Umrah airport assistance in Jeddah really help?

Meet and assist is not necessary for every traveller. A confident adult with hand luggage arriving at a quiet time may pass through JED without difficulty. It becomes valuable when the arrival is complicated.

Situation Independent arrival With meet and assist
Elderly parents or reduced mobility Rely on airline wheelchair service, then find transport alone Greeter coordinates with wheelchair staff, luggage and driver
First visit to Saudi Arabia Navigate signs, queues and terminals yourself Guided through each step, with a person to ask
Family with children and lots of luggage Manage trolleys and children through immigration Help with porterage and a smoother walk to the car
Business traveller on a tight schedule Allow for unpredictable queues Fast track where available, depending on terminal and airline

Note that the exact services, including fast track lanes and the point where a greeter can meet you, depend on the terminal, your airline and current airport rules. A reputable provider confirms in writing what is included before you travel.

Other Saudi airports for pilgrims and visitors

Many pilgrims fly into Madinah instead and travel to Makkah afterwards, or the reverse. Prince Mohammad bin Abdulaziz International Airport in Madinah is smaller and often calmer; see our Madinah airport meet and assist page. For business trips to the capital or onward domestic connections, we also cover Riyadh airport meet and greet. You can browse every location on our meet and assist airports page.

We arrange Jeddah airport meet and greet for arrivals, departures and connections through vetted local partners. A greeter meets you with a name board, helps you through the formalities that apply to your terminal, and hands you over to your driver or walks you to the next step. We confirm the details of every booking in writing, and our 24/7 operations desk is available on WhatsApp at +971 54 515 7619 if your flight changes.

Travel agents and Umrah operators can book for their clients through our B2B partner programme, and we can combine the airport service with a transfer to Makkah or Jeddah, or a private tour of the city.

Frequently asked questions

Which terminal is Saudia at Jeddah airport?

Saudia operates most of its Jeddah flights from Terminal 1, the airport’s main terminal, which also connects to the Haramain train station. During the Hajj and Umrah seasons some Saudia pilgrim flights may use the Hajj and Umrah Terminal. Always confirm on your booking or with Saudia shortly before travel, because terminal allocations at JED are changing in 2026.

Is there a train from Jeddah airport to Makkah?

Yes. The Haramain High Speed Railway has a station at King Abdulaziz International Airport, connected to Terminal 1, with services to Makkah, Jeddah city and Madinah. Book through the official Haramain channels and check the timetable for your date. If you arrive at Terminal 4, the North Terminal or the Hajj Terminal, you will need to transfer to Terminal 1 first.

Can I perform Umrah on a Saudi tourist visa?

At the time of writing, yes: holders of several visa types, including tourist visas, can perform Umrah, provided they obtain an Umrah permit and register required bookings through the official Nusuk platform. The rules and season dates are updated regularly, so check Nusuk and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs visa platform before booking. A tourist visa does not allow you to perform Hajj.

How do I get wheelchair assistance at Jeddah airport?

Request wheelchair assistance from your airline when you book, or as early as possible before departure. The airline arranges it with the airport, and staff usually meet the passenger at the aircraft. A meet and assist service can work alongside this, helping with luggage, keeping the family together and making sure the driver is waiting when you exit.

What is Terminal 4 at Jeddah airport?

Terminal 4 is a new terminal built on the site of the former South Terminal. It began phased operations on 27 September 2026, with capacity for 15 million passengers a year. Airlines including Wizz Air, Pegasus, SalamAir and AJet were among the first to move there, and more foreign airlines are expected to follow during 2026.

Can a greeter meet me at the aircraft door in Jeddah?

It depends on the terminal, your airline and the airport’s current rules. In some cases the greeter can meet you at the gate or air bridge; in others the meeting point is just before immigration or in the arrivals hall. A good provider tells you exactly where you will be met when confirming your booking, so there is no confusion on landing.
